Def Stan 61-005 Part 6 — military vehicle DC supplies
The British standard for DC electrical systems in land platforms, and the load dump you cannot generate with a bench supply.
Part 6 Issue 7 was released in March 2020. Both the old 61-5 and the modern three-digit 61-005 designations remain in live use.
Why this reaches the test bench
Nominal 12 V and 24 V platform systems, wide-input 9 to 36 V DC operation, and the DIT08.B load dump — a loose-battery-terminal event on a heavily loaded system, with peak excursions well above the classic surge. Issue 7 added mandatory Power Control Plans and Centralised Load Dump Suppression. You cannot produce a compliant transient profile with a bench PSU; it is a programmable DC source with arbitrary transient sequencing.
How this differs from the American regime
A US supplier sells MIL-STD-1275 for the same physical problem. Same physics, different document, different buyer, different report.
Why we do not quote this document
The Def Stan catalogue sits entirely behind Defence Gateway SSO, and a contractor cannot self-register — an application must be sponsored by an existing user.
